Frequently asked questions
Getting started
How do I compress a file?
On the home screen tap Video, Audio or Image and pick one or more files. Choose a preset (such as WhatsApp or Email 25 MB), a target size, or set the options yourself under Custom. The predicted size is shown before you start. Tap Compress now, then save or share the result.
Can I share videos into the app from WhatsApp, Photos or my gallery?
Yes. In Photos, Files, WhatsApp or any app with a share button, tap Share and choose Compressor. On iPhone, if you don't see it, scroll to the end of the app row, tap More and add it.
Do I need an internet connection or an account?
No. The app compresses everything on your device, so it works offline and needs no sign-up. A connection is only used to show ads in the free version and to talk to the App Store or Google Play when you buy or restore Pro.
Compression & quality
Which formats are supported?
Video: MP4, MOV, MKV, WebM, AVI, FLV, TS and more, as H.264, HEVC (H.265) or VP9, up to 4K — plus GIF output and audio extraction.
Photos: HEIC, JPEG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, GIF, TIFF, BMP and camera RAW (and JPEG XL on iPhone).
Audio: MP3, AAC/M4A, FLAC, ALAC, WAV, AIFF, OGG, Opus and WMA.
A few formats depend on what your device's hardware supports; the app only offers choices your device can produce.
Why is my video still too big for WhatsApp, email or Discord?
Try the matching preset, or type the exact limit as a target size — the app will lower resolution and bitrate to fit. Very long clips may not fit a small limit at a watchable quality; the app tells you before you start if a target can't be reached. Trimming the clip helps a lot.
The compressed file came out bigger than the original.
That can happen with files that are already heavily compressed. When it does, the app keeps your original and tells you, so you never end up with a worse, bigger copy. Try a lower-quality preset or a smaller resolution.
Why is compression slow, or why did it stop?
Big 4K or HDR videos take longer, especially on older phones. The app uses your device's hardware encoder when it can; the Speed option trades size for time. A batch pauses itself when your battery is low (you can change this in Settings → Pause on low battery) and resumes where it left off if the app is closed.
On iPhone, keep the app open while a long video compresses: iOS pauses long encodes in the background. Short clips and photos finish in seconds.
On Android, allow notifications so the batch can keep running in the background with a progress notification.
What happens to my photo's location and other metadata?
You decide. For photos you can keep all metadata, strip only the location, or strip everything. The result screen tells you what was carried over.
Saving & files
Where are my compressed files saved?
Photos and videos are saved to your camera roll or gallery — or, if you choose it in Settings → Save to, to a “Video Compressor” album. Audio is saved through the share sheet or to Files. Every result also appears in History.
“Couldn't save” or the app can't access my photos.
The app needs permission to add to your photo library to save results. On iPhone, go to Settings → Compressor → Photos and choose Add Photos Only (or Full Access if you want the “Video Compressor” album). On Android, check Settings → Apps → the app → Permissions. Also make sure your device has enough free storage.
Does compressing delete my original videos or photos?
No. The app never modifies or deletes the originals in your photo library or Files. It works on its own temporary copy, and the Keep original files setting only controls whether that working copy is cleared once your result is saved.
Purchases & subscriptions
What does Pro include?
No ads, no file-size cap (the free version handles files up to 500 MB), batches of any size, every preset, any target size and format, and maximum-effort compression. Pro is available weekly, monthly, yearly or as a one-time lifetime purchase; prices are shown in the app in your currency.
How do I restore my purchase?
- Make sure you're signed in to the same Apple ID or Google account you bought Pro with.
- Open the app and go to Settings → Restore purchases.
- Wait a few seconds while the store checks your purchase. You'll see “Pro is active on this device.”
Still not working? Check that the subscription is active in your store account, that the device is online, and that Family Sharing or a different account isn't involved. Then email us with your order ID (from your store receipt) — never send your password or card details.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Subscriptions are managed by the store, not inside the app, and deleting the app does not cancel them.
- iPhone / iPad: Settings → your name → Subscriptions → Video Compressor → Cancel Subscription. Or visit apps.apple.com/account/subscriptions.
- Android: Google Play → profile icon → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → Video Compressor → Cancel. Or visit play.google.com/store/account/subscriptions.
Cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date to avoid the next charge. You keep Pro until the end of the period you've paid for.
How do I get a refund?
Payments go through Apple or Google, so they handle refunds. Request one from Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com, or from Google via Google Play's refund page. We're happy to help if you get stuck.
Ads & privacy
Are my files uploaded or seen by anyone?
No. The app has no server and processes everything on your device. Read the full Privacy Policy.
Why do I see ads, and how do I change my ad choices?
Ads keep the free version free; they are served by Google AdMob. Pro removes them. In the EEA, UK and Switzerland you're asked for consent first and can change it any time in Settings → Privacy choices. On iPhone and iPad, the app asks once whether to allow tracking — you can change that any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking. On Android you can reset or delete your advertising ID in your device's privacy settings. More in the Privacy Policy.
How do I delete my data?
There's no account and we don't store your data on any server, so there's nothing for us to delete. Everything the app keeps — settings and history — lives on your device and is removed when you uninstall the app.

Reporting a problem?
Including these details helps us fix it on the first reply:
- Your device model and iOS or Android version
- The app version — shown at the bottom of Settings
- The file type, rough size and length (e.g. “4K MOV, 2 GB, 3 minutes”)
- The preset or settings you used, and what happened
- A screenshot of any error message
Please don't send your password or card details. If you can, describe the file rather than attaching it.
